Ok, new life, new blog.

Kidding about the new life part. Not about the new blog.

Actually, I've started using Google blogger because of a lil' project I'm involved in, otherwise known as The Urban Vegan: 250 Street-Smart, Animal-Free Recipes. Look for it at a bookstore near you in late 2009.

It turns out, Google Blogger is way, way nicer than Xanga. I can do more with the text, it's easier to link photos, and there's none of that weird new Xanga stuff. Also, it's a lot easier for non-bloggers to read and keep up with (which is important for my relative readers) So, alas, nearly five years later...I am moving my blog here.

I'm not shutting this one down...yet. Can you believe that I am so emotionally attached to a URL???? It's like a part of my life, seeing the blue and white Xanga update screen and typing my emotions away. So I'll still be here. I just won't post here. At least, probably not.

Ok. I'm not sure which is weirder...

1) the President-Elect actually calls himself a "mutt" on TV. (Gotta love the guy for that).

2) Obama speaks about his daughter's allergies with the same gestures that he uses to explain the global energy problem and just about every other crisis.

3) the fact that this is such a pressing issue on the minds of the American people that Obama had to address it during the first post-election news conference.

So where were you when....?

Oh a story to tell the grandchildren...

I didn't go down to Grant Park last night, something I now regret. I had thought that it would be very late in the night before we got the results and both my friend Matt (who, it turns out, actually did vote for Obama) and I are slightly crowd-a-phobic.

But no matter.

We were going to watch it on TV.

So we're sitting around watching CNN, when I have the sudden urge to go to the lady's room. Like, really, really bad. On CNN, it said that they would have Iowa and California's poll results in 40 seconds, but I wasn't paying that close attention to the electoral map. So I go.

And what happens while I am literally on the crapper?

Barack Obama is declared the first black President-Elect of the United States.

I don't think I will ever forgive my bowels for this.

Anyway, I am relieved. I am quite happy. I am shredding my Canadian visa application as we speak. And when I saw people at Ebenezer Baptist Church crying and singing in Atlanta last night, I couldn't help but cry too. Actually, I might have cried alot. I'm excited to see what happens in the next six months as we gear up for a new Congress and an new Cabinet.

Pay close attention to it all, my friends. Because we are living history.

Yes, this is what $80 per class period will get you (the approximate cost of Loyola). In my Spanish class today, our assignment was to watch this video and transcribe it. If you can do it...well....you can have my life. :)

Good 'ol Ohio

A quote from a voter, in Green, OH as broadcasted on Chicago Public Radio...

"Ya know, I'm voting for John McCain because he's a values candidate. I'm a values voter. You know, abortion and the gay marriage thing. And when John McCain chose Sarah Palin, we knew that he was serious. We knew that he shared our values."

(I will refrain from sharing all the reasons why I think this statement is ridiculous)
